8th Grade Final Portfolio Project
Portfolio Project : Minus 10 points each day it is late (see comment by presentation requirement). The project will be graded out of 300 points.
Task: Choose a decade for your theme 1950 - 2010. Research and put together a portfolio. Start with a time line of events then the most important part of this task is the research paper. The last item you should work on is the Theme paper, which will require you to reflect on what you have learned.
Project Order: Please put the items in your portfolio in the following order. Each section will be worth the points posted.
1. Compelling Title and Cover Page for the Portfolio: Students must create a cover page that is appropriate and reflects time
and thought.

2. Theme Paper: Student has chosen a decade. The paper is at least a page in length, there is an overview of items in the portfolio and what the student found most interesting. The paper is informative and creative.

3. Time line: Student has detailed five or more events occurring in the decade chosen.

4. Research Paper: Student has chosen a specific topic or event within the decade to research. Paper must be typed, 12 point font, double spaced, and at least 2 pages in length. Essay must include an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion written in clear and correct English with no spelling errors. MLA format must be used and a works cited page must be included (not part
of the 2 + pages).

5. Pictures/Drawings: Student will include throughout the portfolio at least five pictures or drawings related to events within the decade. They must have captions. The cover page does not count towards this grade.

Students will choose to include either item 6 or 7; both may be done for extra credit.
6. Survey: Student must create a survey about an important event from the decade picked. The student must ask one school staff member and one adult outside of school to complete the survey. It must be typed and include their personal thoughts and feelings about the event and have at least six relevant questions. Survey must not be the same topic chosen for the research paper.

7. Poem/Song: Student will find or write a poem or song about an event or topic covered within the decade chosen. It must be typed and include an analysis of how it relates to the decade.

8. Presentation: Students will present their projects to the class. Names will be selected randomly;
if you are not prepared you will not get a chance to present again and will lose these points.
